Your First 7 Days With AI โ A Day-by-Day Action Plan
The people who get the most from AI aren't the ones who read the most about it. They're the ones who do something with it every day for the first week. This plan is 30โ45 minutes a day. Each day builds on the last.
Day 1 โ Monday: Account setup and first prompt
Complete the 5-step setup. Then send one real work task using this structure:
You are a [your job role].
Task: [one real thing you need to do today]
Context: [relevant background]
Format: [how you want the response]Day 2 โ Tuesday: Use it on actual work
Pick one task from your real to-do list. An email to write. A document to summarize. A decision to think through. If the first response isn't what you wanted, ask Claude what's weak about it and have it try again.
Day 3 โ Wednesday: Set up your Project
Create a Project for your main work context. Spend 15 minutes writing the Project Instructions. Then have a full work session inside it. Notice how different it feels when Claude already knows your context.
Day 4 โ Thursday: The self-critique loop
For every Claude response you get today, follow this sequence:
- Get the first response
- Send: "What's the weakest part of that? How would you improve it?"
- Get the revised version
- Notice what changed and why
Do this three times today. By the third round you'll see patterns in what makes prompts better.
Day 5 โ Friday: Build your first reusable prompt
Identify one task you do every single week. Build a template for it:
[WEEKLY TASK NAME]
You are a [role].
Context I'll provide each time: [what you'll paste in]
What to produce: [the output]
Format: [exactly how you want it]
Rules:
- [your standing rules, e.g. "Under 200 words"]Day 6 โ Saturday: Try a second tool
If you've been using Claude, try ChatGPT on the same task. If you've been using ChatGPT, try Claude. Don't switch โ just compare. Claude tends to be better for long documents and nuanced writing. ChatGPT has Deep Research, image generation, and data analysis baked in. Knowing both means you pick the right tool per job.
Day 7 โ Sunday: Design your weekly AI workflow
Write down: what 3 tasks did AI handle better than expected? What do you want to automate next? Which learning track do you want next week?
Then block 20 minutes every day next week on your calendar labeled "AI session." Protected time is what separates lasting habits from people who try AI once and drift away.
